How to Apply for a Driving License Online and Offline

Driving opens up a world of possibilities, whether you're cruising around town or exploring new places on a road trip. Getting your driver's license is the key to unlocking this freedom, and the good news is, it's easier than ever before!

Online or Offline? You Choose!

Gone are the days of endless lines and paperwork. You can now apply for your license online through the Sarathi website, or visit your local Regional Transport Office (RTO) in person. Here's a breakdown of both methods:

Zooming Through Online Application:

  1. Visit the Sarathi website. Think of it as your one-stop shop for all things driving license!
  2. Select state. Choose the state where you live and will be driving the car. Fear not, you can drive anywhere in India once you get the driving licence.
  3. Click the "Apply for Driving Licence" section. Psst. It's the second option.
  4. Fill out the application form. Be sure to double-check all your information for a smooth process.
  5. Pay the fees online. No need for fumbling with cash!
  6. Schedule your driving test. Pick a date and time that works for you.
  7. Pass the test, get your license! If you ace the test, your license will be mailed to you or available for download online.

Applying in Person at the RTO:

  1. Grab Form 4. You can download it from your state's transport department website or pick one up at the RTO.
  2. Fill out the form carefully. Make sure all the details are correct.
  3. Pay the application fee.
  4. Schedule your driving test. Choose a convenient date and time.
  5. Pass the test, receive your license! Depending on your state, you might get it right away or it might be mailed to you.
